Today I can’t think or anything to write about. Scratch that… I am writing, maybe not about any subject in particular, but I am writing nevertheless.

I had a busy day yesterday. I worked all day and when I came home my wife wanted to do some shopping. I took her to several stores (she has a drivers licence and we own two cars, but she is afraid to drive).

Anyway, when we got back, I had a voicemail from my son asking me if I would like to go to the movies with him to see “The Incredible Hulk” as a “Father’s Day” treat.

Even though while I was out I had rented 10,000 BC, I could not say no. Science fiction and action movies are my favourites, so I enjoyed the movie and actually it was pretty good.

I didn’t like the previous “Hulk” movie, but this one was actually pretty good.

Once I got back, I watched the movie I had rented and I liked it too, but by the time I finished watching it, it was 2:00am.

Now for somebody who gets up at 5:00am to go to work everyday, 2:00am is a bit late. Good thing this is a long weekend. Tuesday is “Canada Day” (July 1st) and I am taking Monday off, so this is a 4 day weekend for me.

I had to put in a vacation day for Monday because my boss wouldn’t give me the day off even though I have worked 100s of hours of overtime in the last few years without getting paid.

But I guess this is the type of crap you have to put up with when you work for somebody else.

Anyway, it’s about 10:00pm now and I just finished supper. I have the feeling that just like last night, this is also going to be a late night.

Wow!… I guess that for someone who couldn’t think about anything to write about, I didn’t do too badly, don’t you think so?

I just want to update you on how the campaign is doing. As expected, because the campaign has only one ad group and the ad group has only one keyword, the number of impressions is not that high.

I actually started with a different keyword than the one I am using now. That keyword was exactly the name of the product, but unfortunately it was not being searched for, so after a day or 2 into the campaign, I received an email from Google notifying me that the ad was not getting any impressions.

For this reason, I added 2 other keywords and allowed the ad run for a couple of days before checking again. When I finally checked, I found that both of the new keywords got impressions, but only one of them was getting clicks. I then decided to pause the original keyword (which didn’t have any impressions yet) as well as the new keyword that was not getting any clicks.

Now the ad only has one keyword. I am actually getting 8.45% CTR on it which is actually above average.

I expect that soon I’ll make a sale… And then another… And another. You get the picture.

Come back soon for another update…

If you have visited the Blog before, you probably read about my intention of testing a new way (at least for me is a new way) of creating an AdWords campaign using only one ad group with the name of the product as the only keyword for that ad group.

Well, I just finished adding the campaign (a one ad group campaign) and now I am going to sit back and watch how many clicks that keyword gets and if anybody buys the product. Obviously not just if anybody buys the product, but also if I get any ROI (Return On Investment) from this campaign.

I am not going to tell you which product the ad is for, or what is the keyword, because I don’t want anybody doing searches for that keyword just to check the ad which would affect negatively the click through rate.

Anyway, I will be posting a follow-up update soon, so make sure you come back to find out if I made any sales.

As I had promised yesterday, here is a follow-up to my Blog post. As I had mentioned, Google had the Blog listed on page 5 when I entered a search for the key phrase “tony alves” and I promised to check today to see if my post of yesterday had made any difference.

Once again it surprised me to see that the Blog gained one page in Google’s listings for the same key phrase. Now the Blog shows on page 4 and it gained 2 spots on this page since this morning when I first checked it.

I just returned home from a wedding, it’s close to midnight and I am very tired, however, I had to post before going to bed, because it’s very important not to skip a day, so the momentum doesn’t get broken.

Posting daily is one of the reasons why the Blog got listed so quickly in Google and is climbing up the ranks steadily.

I am going to keep this post brief because as I mentioned it’s late and I am tired.

I’ll follow-up again tomorrow.

I am ecstatic… I can hardly believe my eyes!…

I started this Blog on June 8th and yesterday, June 12th just 4 days after I started it, it showed up on the 5th page in Google when I entered the key phrase “tony alves” which is the URL of the Blog.

I think this is amazing considering that Google showed 532,000 listings for this key phrase. This was the first time I searched for the Blog. I didn’t do it earlier because I never believed I would find it listed. Even yesterday I was not expecting to find it listed at all, never mind finding it on the 5th page of Google.

Now I regret not having searched for it everyday after I created it. I wonder how soon right after I created it Google listed it.

I had heard about the power of Blogs and the power of content, but if anyone had told me that it was possible to have a Blog listed in Google in only 4 days, I would not have believed it.

And to have it showing on the 5th page of Google, really is amazing to me. If I had not seen it with my own eyes, I would not have believed it.

But you are probably dying to find out how I did it. Well as you could guess from the title of the post, all I did was post to the Blog. The amazing thing though is that I had only entered (as of yesterday) nine posts.

This is the 10th post… I’ll continue adding at least one post a day. I wonder how long it will take me to get to the first page in Google.

I am going to do a search everyday from now on and I’ll report any improvement in the listings. By the way, I checked today and it’s still in the 5th page. I’ll check again tomorrow to see if it’s position improves with this post.

If you are trying to build a business online, but don’t believe the power of Blogs and content, I hope that you’ll change your mind after reading this post. But if like me you have to see it to believe it, just give it a try. I am sure you will not regret it.

I will keep you updated of any improvements in the listings.

Today I have decided to give it another try at selling Affiliate Products using AdWords.

I have tried using Google AdWords several times in the past to promote Affiliate products, but generally I have lost money. I have also tried MSN and Yahoo, but the result was the same.

Today I read an article about the subject which went into details on how to use PPC the “smart way” to promote Affiliate Products and actually make money.

Most articles and eBooks talk about creating a list of keywords and setting up a campaign with as many keywords as possible including “long tail keywords” and using the three options (exact, broad and phrase).

I have used this method of setting up campaigns, but I either broke even or lost money.

However, what I read today was the total opposite of this. Instead of setting up a campaign with many keywords, use only the name of the product and set up the campaign as “exact” match only.

Then if the campaign is successful using only the name of the product, try other keywords but do it by adding one keyword at a time and make sure to use keyword tracking to track which keyword is actually making sales.

Anyway, I am definitely going to give it another try. Come back to find out how I do this time.

To you success,

When I thought I had my Blog set-up and running I found another couple (more than a couple actually) of problems with it which took me a few more hours to fix.

A few of the links were not working properly. These were links that I had not set-up myself and I didn’t think that I had to. However, I found out that I had to create a feed, download a file and then upload it, so the links would work correctly.

So I created the feed and because I am hosting the Blog in my own domain, I had to download a file and upload it to my hosting provider… Which I did without much trouble.

However, after completing everything, I found that the links were still not working. I went through all the steps a couple of times making sure that I didn’t miss anything and even though I had done everything correctly, the links still didn’t work.

After a few hours of trying without any success, I decided to “hard code” the links. Once this was done, everything was working as it should (almost). I say this because a couple of the links are not pointing exactly to the destination I would like them to.

But because I don’t have the URL of the proper destination for the links, I can’t set them correctly. However, I have decided not to waist any more time trying to do something that’s really not that important.

To your success,

This was more challenging than I anticipated. I am talking about setting-up this Blog on my own domain.

It seemed to be going without any major problems, but after all the files were installed I noticed that the left “navbar” of the Blog was not displaying correctly. Some of the lines in the navigation menu were displaying only the top half of the letters.

At this point I had two choices… I could change the design team of the Blog again, which would entail modifying the Header to include my picture and logo, or I could try to fix the HTML code.

Not knowing which approach would take the least time and because I really liked the design team I had chosen, I opted for fixing the code… Well at least I would give it a try.

Boy… Was that a challenge!… First, I had to find the file which contained the code for the left navbar. After I identified the file, I still had to identify the piece of code that needed to be fixed.

To cut a long story short, let me just tell you that I went to bed after 3:00am this morning, but I was happy because the problem was fixed.

Come back tomorrow to find out today’s highlights.
