What Is Twitter…
Twitter is essentially a net-based chatroom filled with your friends. The basic idea is you log in to the service, add friends, and start sending them simple little messages. Twitter is quickly becoming a big deal, and it is an opportunity for bloggers to reach out interactively with others.
Think of it this way, no longer must you sit and wait for people to visit your blog. Twitter is asking us to pay attention, to account for our time, and even to gather a sense of our purpose and usefulness in this world. Twitter is a social network, it’s about community.
Twitter is currently in the throes of this gray area of value evolution. Some people swear by it as social glue they couldn’t live without. Twitter is becoming the canary in the news coalmine. It stands to reason: If you’ve just gone through such a major event, you are sure to want to update your friends about it.
Twitter is interesting, but not groundbreaking, and not market-spanning. Twitter isn’t more of a problem than email, VoIP or any other communication medium. It is easy to broadcast a message to a large audience, but only in 140 characters at a time. Twitter is incredibly boring if you don’t have a bunch of friends in the system.
